# Create a Smart Link

Create a trackable short link so you can see when a customer taps a Visit Website button in your templates.

## Overview

WhatsApp doesn't tell you when someone taps a Visit Website button in a message — a Smart Link is the only way to see that click. Create the link here, then choose it when you add a Visit Website button while creating a template.

## Before you begin

- Know the destination URL you want customers to land on.

## Open Smart Links

### Step 1 — Open Smart Links

From the left sidebar, click Smart Links, then click New Smart Link.

## Fill in the link details

### Step 2 — Enter a name and destination

Give the link a Name (for your own reference — customers never see it) and a Destination URL, where customers land when they tap it. Optionally set an expiry date and a message to show once the link expires or is switched off.

## Create the link

### Step 3 — Review and create

Check the details, then click Create Link.

### Field reference

| Field | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Name | Yes | Internal label for this link — not shown to recipients. |
| Destination URL | Yes | Where customers land. Can be changed later without changing the link itself. |
| Expires on | No | When the link stops working. |
| "Link Expired" message | No | Shown instead of the destination once the link expires or is switched off. |

## Expected result

The new link appears in your Smart Links list with a generated, permanent short URL. Select it when adding a Visit Website button to a template, and its Clicks count updates as customers tap it.
